Dance, Friends and Memories

Volume up for some fun Bhangra music! Warning: you might start shaking those shoulders.

Hi everyone! I'm Asha Krishnan. I've always been dancing, but here's a look at how I got started getting involved with dance at Georgetown.

Who am I?

I'm a freshman at Georgetown, majoring in Chinese and I love to dance! I've been dancing for 12 years (mostly Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi) but this is my first time trying Bhangra. I hope you enjoy looking at my Bhangra adventures this past year!

My dance history:

Back home, I studied 12 years of South Indian classical dance at Kalashri School of Arts. I did my Arangetram (3 hour solo performance; dance graduation) in Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Click the picture below to see my school's website!

In the past, I've trained in:

Here's a look at the Bhangra shows I've done with Georgetown Jawani, Georgetown's Bhangra team.

Month Show
November HOYA Madness: To kick off the basketball season, Jawani performed at HOYA Madness in McDonough Arena.
February Law Center: Jawani performed at a talent show at the Georgetown Law center.
March NAIMUN Conference: As part of Hilltop Madness, Jawani performed at the NAIMUN Conference at the Marriott Hotel. It was a 4 sided stage, and so much fun!
April Lalkaar competition: Jawani is going to compete at the Lalkaar competition in Delaware!

Below is my first performance this semester. My team performed at the Georgetown Law Center. It was lowkey and a good warm up for me to keep performing. After watching myself, I wanted to focus on keeping my energy up, making my movements less stiff, and becoming BIG with my movements!! Catch me dancing: I'm the girl in the blue vest!

This is my most recent performance at NAIMUN at the Mariott Hotel in DC. The routine was extremely tiring but I tried my best to keep my shoulders moving and my energy up. Catch me dancing: I'm the taller girl in yellow! (P.S. I don't enter till the 1:40 mark)

Future Jawani: We will be competing at the Lalkaar competition in Delware at the end of April. Practices will be almost everyday, but I am so excited to go compete!
